Establishing Rules and Boundaries
- Use ‘leave it’ exercises with a different item each day
- Control your dogs feeding:
- Ensure your dog waits until receiving its food or treat
- Do not leave your dogs food down, this is for health and behaviour reasons
- Handle your dog all over, this will enhance your dogs tolerance
- Start and stop all games at a time you decide, not your dog!
- Make your dog wait before going through doorways and up and down stairs – control is essential for safety
- Do not allow your dog to jump up or use height to its advantage
- DO NOT allow your dog to initiate affection or attention, this does not mean your dog should not be fussed
- Do not feel guilty, your relationship with your dog will only improve if the dog is aware of its place in the home pack
- Ensure if you give the dog a command that you can get the result you want OR don’t give the command
Remember - Consistency is the key
